silver ring thing
July 16, 2007
You sometimes wonder whether the High Court gets fed up with adjudicating on something seemingly as trivial as school uniform. There has been a number of cases of late culminating in the latest concerning Lydia Playfoot who was asked by her school in West Sussex not to wear a silver ring. She maintained that the ring was an expression of her Christian faith and to deny her the right to wear it was a denial of her right to express her faith and, ultimately a denial (and breach) of her human rights.
new name for dfes

No longer to be known as the Department for Education and Skills (or the DfES) as we have known and loved it. Gordon Brown has ‘re-branded’ the new Department responsible for, amongst other things, schools and young people, as the Department for Children, Schools and Families. Oddly, same link address for their website.
