Much in the press today about new powers to fine parents of children who have been excluded from school and who are subsequently found in a public place. The DfCYF press release confirms that the new powers require parents to attend a reintegration interview, and ensure their children are indoors during school hours unless that have a reasonable justification.

Whilst the Education and Inspections Act 2006 is the enabling legislation, the detail is found in two sets of regulations, unhappily called The Education(Provision of Full-Time Education for Excluded Pupils)(England) Regulations 2007 and The Education (Reintegration Interview)(England) Regulations 2007.
